Description
Fitting a Clubman exhaust.
The Clubman exhaust was designed to fit all series 3 Lambretta Scooters (GP, Li, SX, GT, TV) The u bend is of a larger diameter than original. It can be necessary on some bikes to cut the cylinder head cowl slightly to give some clearance.
Fitting to a Series 1 or 2:
The crankcase cover fixings that hold the exhaust on are M6 instead of the larger M8 on early casings. This will force you to trim the sharks fin bracket on the clubman to have clearance.
Early engines were also fitted with a shorter cylinder (Only 3 cooling fins under the exhaust port rather than 4 for the later cylinders). The clubman exhaust will not fit without modification to the u bend on a short early cylinder as it will make the u bend sit 10mm further back than needed.
Fitting to a Mugello Cylinder:
The Mugello cylinder has a deeper exhaust port than standard so allows the exhaust studs more depth to hold. This is like fitting an 8mm thick extra exhaust gasket. It makes the u bend sit 8mm lower than intended. Often the clubman can be jiggled around and will still fit, but not always, sometimes it will be necessary to shorten the u bend by 8mm to suit.
Fitting Q’s: Locate the U bend on the exhaust flange and loosely fit the head cowl in to place. Tighten the u bend on to the exhaust flange. Then tighten the head cowl down.
Locate the front of the exhaust box with clamp on to the u bend, then focus on locating the sharks fin and the m6 tail bracket. Do not push the exhaust too far on to the u bend.
Locate the M8 bolt under the exhaust. Fit the M8 nylocs to the sharks fin positions and the M6 Nyloc to the tail bracket. Tighten the nyloc nuts, then the M8 bolt underneath and finally the clamp .
